Discovering Cardedeu

Cardedeu is a medium sized town in Valles Oriental in the province of Barcelona approximately 35 minutes by train from Barcelona. It is of medieval origin lying at the bottom of the beautiful Montseny mountain.

It is a buzzing place with a vibrant, growing community. At its core is the beautiful church, the Esglesia de Santa Maria and town hall and village square where you’ll find an array of charming cafeterias, bars and restaurants.

At the end of the 19^th century after the cessation of the Carlist wars Cardedeu became a holiday haven for wealthy people, many building new mansions and holiday homes used during the holiday summer months. The influence of Modernism can be seen widely in Cardedeu in the houses built by the Barcelona bourgeoisie. With the new railway line, bankers, businessmen, politicians and liberal professionals of the time, converted this town into a summer destination for the rich.
