One of the many questions people ask us is: » isnt it very dark in the tank. What if I am claustrophobic?»
I suppose, given the nature of floating, it is an expected question. But the good news is, and that’s after floating many, many people, you don’t have anything to fear.
While we always advise everyone new to the float experience to at least try first with the door closed and without lights the great news is that everyone who comes to float at Flotarium is in control of their own session.
When you arrive you are briefed twice. First we will give you very simple written instructions to read, and then we will show you how the tanks work. After taking a shower and drying off well you are ready to get into the tank and start the session. The black button inside the tank closes and opens the door. So at any time during the session, the door can be opened.
We have regular clients who prefer floating with the door open.
The ambient blue wavelight on the outside makes open door floating just as pleasureable. The same goes with the light within the pods. With the white button you control how you want to float…with light or without. Nine times out of ten once inside our floaters enjoy the full 50 minute session with the door closed.
So the key is control. Knowing that one is in control of their whole session takes the nervousness out of floating. From a personal perspective , I prefer closed door float sessions and no light. This helps me escape the outside world and get into a meditative state much quicker. A closed door also eliminates any external white noise. It is a city after all.
